In 2012, Gareth Stevens Publishing produced Graphic Mythical Creatures: Dragons, part of a series of books that are part encyclopedia and part graphic novel. This particular issue features Gary Jeffrey's story "Beowulf and the Dragon" as illustrated by Dheeraj Verma. This is a very abbreviated adaptation of Beowulf's final battle with the dragon and describes the hero as having been the ruler of Gothland for 20 years before being attacked. While short (16 pages), it includes details such as Wiglaf's wooden shield and the desertion of most of the warriors, Naegling's destruction in the battle, and Beowulf being shown the treasure he had won by destroying the dragon. One additional detail that it features, and one that has not been used in previous adaptations, is the inclusion of a scene where Beowulf gives Wiglaf his gold collar, signifying the transfer of power.
