In 1981, J.M. DeMatteis and Gil Kane co-wrote and Kane did the art for Marvel's Conan the Barbarian #127. In this story, titled "The Snow-Haired Woman of the Waste," Conan rescues a woman from an attacking bear, and later stumbles onto a village that is being attacked and ransacked by Vanir soldiers under the command of Grendel of Vanaheim. On his first attack, Conan is unarmed and is captured, and is eventually freed by the same woman he had rescued earlier. The story describes that the woman is actually a supernatural being who has escaped from Grendel. The inevitable battle featuring Grendel of Vanaheim and Conan ends with Grendel dying and the woman, who turns out to be made of ice and snow, melts in Conan's arms. This character has no other connection to the poem or to the later Marvel character Grendell, who is described on his own page.
