In this 1943 Fiction House comic, Curt Davis takes the reader along with recurring character Stuart Taylor through time to meet up with Hrothgar and Beowulf and gives him a chance to fight Grendel and Grendel's mother. As far as it goes, the story follows some of the major events in the poem pretty faithfully, including the segment where Beowulf meets Hrothgar and offers his help. While the monsters are less frightening than they could be (dragon/dinosaur hybrids, which will be seen in later adaptations as well), Grendel is killed from the loss of a limb and his mother is killed by having her head cut off by a sword.
While I am noting only Curt Davis, there is a possibility that others had a hand in either the writing or the art. Artists and writers were not always given full credit in this era, and sites such as Comic Book DB note that there were additional writers and artists on other installments of this ongoing series.
