In 1973, in the adaptation of Robert E. Howard's "The Valley of the Worm," there is a cameo appearance of Beowulf (note: the story was reprinted in 1975 in the first issue of the magazine-sized Kull and the Barbarians). In the story, adapted by Roy Thomas and Gerry Conway and featuring art by Gil Kane and Ernie Chua, Beowulf is just one of a number of classic monster fighters whose tales were supposedly adapted from the exploits of character named Niord.
