Another brief adaptation, with art by D. Bruce Berry, appeared in 1979, published by Educational Insights as issue #18 in its “Short Stories Around the World.” Berry is most known in comics from his inking on the pencil work of artist Jack Kirby in the 1970s and 1980s. Kirby’s well-known dynamism and exaggeration of physique are reflected in the story, especially in the depiction of Grendel’s mother – her body resembles a He-Man action figure but her face is very feminine. While short (four pages, but magazine sized), the adaptation is mostly faithful to those parts of the poem that it covers: the initiation of the troubles with Grendel through Beowulf’s rise from the mere carrying Grendel’s head, and is intended for an audience that wants a brief overview of the story with graphics.
